Kevin Beavers Obituary

Kevin Dean Beavers, 62, of Henning, MN and formerly of Backus, MN passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on February 27, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, MN.

Per the family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and an open house celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Karvonen Funeral Home in Wadena, MN.

Kevin was born to Roland and Wilma (Codner) Beavers and was raised in the Backus area. He graduated from Backus High School and carried with him the strong work ethic and small-town values that shaped his life. Growing up, he spent much of his time riding three-wheelers and helping on the family farm in rural Backus alongside his Aunt and Uncle, Floyd and Shirley, whom he lovingly referred to as his “second parents.” The woods were his refuge — hunting, fishing, and taking long drives down back roads, sometimes just to see where they would lead.

On August 2, 2008, Kevin was united in marriage to Elizabeth Smith at Swan Valley Lutheran Church in Leader, MN. Together they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and love.

Kevin was known as a “class A wisecracker” — honest and upfront, yet incredibly patient. He had a way of saying what was on his mind, often reminding those around him that there were “no stupid questions.” He loved deeply and treated everyone equally.

Family was everything to Kevin. He never missed one of his #1 Grandson James’ games — baseball or football — and was always on the sidelines, proudly cheering him on. He faithfully attended appointments after Raymond was diagnosed with cancer, offering steady and unwavering support. He treasured time with his nieces and nephews, playing catch, teasing them good-naturedly, and passing along his passion for hunting and the outdoors. Being “Papa” was one of the greatest joys of his life.

Kevin also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs. Whether in the woods, on a quiet back road, or surrounded by family, he was happiest simply being present with the people and things he loved most.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Beavers of Henning, MN; Daughter Amber Ziehm of Monticello, MN; Son Raymond Ziehm of Henning, MN; Daughter Ashley Ziehm of Henning, MN; #1 Grandson James Ziehm of Henning, MN; sister Carla (Dale) Leehy of Bertha, MN; brothers Rollie (Pattie) Beavers of Ohio, Ken (Shirley) Beavers of Sebeka, MN, and Darren (Jackie) Beavers of Bertha, MN; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Wilma (Codner) Beavers; and his sister, Julie, who passed at the age of 17.

Kevin will be remembered for his humor, his honesty, his loyalty, and the steady love he gave so freely to those around him.
